On October 30th CLUTCH wrapped. Yes, IT'S OFFICIAL- that means NO MORE
FILMING!!! It's in the can peoples! Three days later Jay was in Las
Vegas for the SEMA Show- the premier automotive specialty products trade event in the
world. Jay joined up with Tony Huntimer to help guide Jay through his first year
at SEMA- It's sooo huge! (Tony writes for Camaro Performers Magazine and is the author
of the ever popular S-A Design Books HOW TO BUILD AND MODIFY GM PRO-TOURING STREET
MACHINES and the HOW TO BUILD FORD RESTOMOD STREET MACHINES books (available at
www.racehome.com). His
new book HOW TO REBUILD THE BIG BLOCK CHEVROLET will be on retailers book shelves in
January 2009).
Jay got to meet so many wonderful people, friends, sponsors and automotive industry
leaders it was the perfect way to celebrate the years and years of hard work it's
taken to produce CLUTCH. Upon arriving back in Seattle Jay has hit the ground
running and is working on all of the Post-Production duties involved with the
movie. It's going to be an official 2009 release for the movie and we will update
you with an official date when we firm up some other business associated with the
release. A new website is being developed and built with the goal to launch a
week before Christmas as well.
From Jay:
For the past 8 years Larry Callahan has hosted the Pro-Touring Banquet at SEMA which
gathers the company owners, designers, marketing guys and others from top companies
in the industry. I want to thank Larry and Susan Callahan for including me in
this great event and helping to promote The Most Driven Car Film Ever Made,
CLUTCH. I'm already looking forward to next year!!! Larry is the one who launched
the "Pro- Touring" website years ago which fueled the craze for building corner carving
high performance musclecars. Larry's ground up custom built '68 Camaro Twin Turbo
"MOTIV8R" debuted at SEMA and features the best of the best from the latest and greatest
of products, designs and creative ideas. You will soon see that car in many magazine
publications and more. For more info on Larry's car and the top notch companies that
were involved in the build visit
www.pro-touring.com.
You can also visit www.v8tvshow.com to see what SEMA's all about as well as other cool stuff.

Alan Luxmore, who plays Travis' mechanic, Bobby, in CLUTCH was flown to
Seattle from Los Angeles a few weeks ago to complete filming his role in
the final outstanding scene for the picture . This was also the '68
"Bomber" Camaro's farewell scene as well. This means Principle Photography
has been completed. There is only 1 day of pick up shooting left. The last
shoot day was scheduled for last week but an actor cancellation blew that
out of the water. Now we're dealing with crew members being double booked
on other jobs and will shoot it as soon as we can align the schedules and
match the weather...sometime in the next 10 days it should be a final
wrap!
Next up: Putting the pedal to the metal- giving the picture edit (which is
at 95% completion) a final "cut" and cranking out the post production
sound design.
FROM JAY:
My film crew, you know who you are and you know how much I appreciate all
you've done. Thank you. (I'll save the long winded speech for the Premiere
:))

May 1, 2008 - Jay's Birthday tomorrow, May 2nd
-
Last week wrapped another successful "pick up" shoot. One of the largest movie
lighting packagesused on CLUTCH... Known as "the DEA scene" this particular scene
involves 30 different actors, lots of law enforcement tactical gear and guns.
Jay consulted with actual members of Police SWAT and U.S. Military prior to this
shoot to assure the correct execution of maneuvers scripted for this scene. A
handful of military personnel also filled some of the acting roles. Firearms
wrangler/ expert Kevin Innouye was on set not only providing weapons and gear, but
also for safety and giving Jay a hand at coaching the actors for on screen
performances with firearms. A few "behind the scenes" photos: (courtesy Robert Dorse Jr.)
Thank you to Rockin' Ray Hammond and the crew at Pacific Grip and Lighting for
their professional service and support!!! Special THANK YOU's go out to Alex
Krallis at the Pyramid Alehouse in Seattle for letting Renegade Productions build
sets and shoot in an unused portion of their old brewery. Thank you to Eric Bingham
for welding us up one bad ass battering ram! Thank you to a fantastic film crew,
all the volunteers, friends and family that helped- and to all the actors! You guys
did a great job!!! Jay is stoked with your performances!
|
What's next: Shot lists ready, locations, crew, cameras and stunt car ready to go
film the last few days of pick up shots for CLUTCH. We're just dealing with some
of the performers availability and scheduling issues. The picture edit is ready
to go other than these last "pick ups" that need to be added- as soon as the edit is
updated a "locked picture" copy will immediately be given to the films composer to
create the score.

'68 Camaro stunt car engine is back in action and running better than
ever. Had a very successful shoot last week on Vashon Island and the film
footage looks great!!! Thanks to an exceptional film crew who hustled
their asses off all day keeping up with the pace. As fun (and scary for
passengers Scott Waters from the sound dept. an Alan's stunt double Ben
Ford) as the stunt driving was it's going to be a few weeks before we get
to go shoot the rest of the stuff. A damaged steering and suspension
issue on the stunt car, combined with driving the car through a downed
tree and what not tore the muscle in Jay's arm that connects the elbow to
the hand and wrist. X-rays showed no broken bones but the splints gotta
stay on for a few weeks. Plenty of other work on the movie will be getting
taken care of while Jay anxiously looks forward to getting back in the
drivers seat.

PRODUCTION NOTES:
Moving ahead with other pick up shoots while we wait for the Crane gold roller rocker
and pushrods to arrive for the stunt car. Gotta get that bastard back in action!!!
Rain, Sleet, Snow- Ain't stoppin' the Renegade.
Sunday 1/20/08 was a successful shoot day until the Sun fuckin' dropped behind
the treeline at 3pm. Progress made. Movin' forward.
Thanks again to Stroble Sr. (who fired up the woodstove & propane heaters in his
race shop so we and our gear could stay dry until the freezing rain stopped) Thanks
to the skeleton crew- Michael, Scott- and the other Island bros Bredice, Frontero and
Paul Engels. There's a long list of people who've helped and those who continue
to help the production of CLUTCH. There's a few guys that top that list like
Bob Morton, Doug Kirk, Bobby D- and Paul Engels. PAUL ENGELS everybody- this
fucker continuously goes out of his way to help make things happen for the
movie. Whether it's using one of his tow trucks or flatbeds to haul picture
cars to filming locations, moving & positioning cars for the shot, staying up
late into the night with Jay wenching vehicles out of the muddy woods so they can
be used in the movie- the list grows every week and it's not just limited to all the
car stuff. Sure there's a reason Paul is credited in the movie as the lead mechanic,
but he's simply one of those guys that goes out of his way to help you at the drop of
a hat. No matter what. This guy needs to be on Chip Fooses T.V. Show
OVERHAULIN'. Paul Engels is the kind of guy you want to see on the t.v. show
Overhaulin'.
POST PRODUCTION NOTES:
Thanks to the artists/ musicians that have submitted their work for soundtrack
consideration. During production breaks Jay is listening to your music
and finding out if it jives with CLUTCH. Thank You!

Plans to finish shooting this month hit a speed bump... Went to tune the carb
on the stunt car and ended up finding a busted pushrod and a mangled roller rocker-
along with those scary metal shavings in the oil...hopefully the damage is limited
to the pushrod and rocker. We're gonna replace those, adjust the valves and timing-
and if there's no further problems we'll get that carb dialed in like originally
planned. ("We're" and "we'll" means this work is being lead by the Master of
Mopar Horsepower Mike Stroble Sr.- If you know Mike please let ALL his Mopar friends
know he's working on a Chevy :))
Other than that things are going great. 11 kick ass songs have been put into
the edit and chosen for the Movie Soundtrack. Currently searching for more
songs that have the CLUTCH groove as well.
More updates soon- probably have some more pics for you to look at too.
The pedals to the metal, heels to the steel and the throttles pegged y'all-
fireball's a rollin'. Ball's to the fuckin' wall like a 'shine runner goin' for
the state line.

Nuff said.
Jay's pouring himself all over the edit of CLUTCH, tightening things up and finding
creative ways to eliminate "pick up" shots.
RENEGADE PRODUCTIONS just purchased it's own Arriflex Film Camera to help speed up
and facilitate the last bit of filming for CLUTCH. Thank you Laszlo Pal, Tamia
Diaz & Hans, Bobby D, Bob Morton, Dyno D, Scott Waters and Paul Engels-
y'all know what's up.
Thank you to all our fans for keeping up with the progress of CLUTCH!!! The Most
Driven Car Film Ever Made is coming!

Scroll down to see the pics of the stunt car in action- that was the 1st shoot back
out with an all new motor and transmission. Brand new carb was pukin'
and the rear end "freeway" gears sucked! Make shit happen- flatbeded it to
Dockton Speed Shop, Vashon Island- rear axle out of that Camaro in 10 minutes. 5
days later it's back in the Camaro with all new Eaton posi and 4.56 gears. (not
to mention both leaf spring pins were sheered off and two broken leafs had to be fixed)
Car's on it's way to Mike Stroble Sr.'s "The Master" for getting that Holley double
pumper dialed in right.
The 454SS Camera truck has been taking a beating chasing that Camaro around too- two
holes in the headers, a broken weld in the pipes, a gouged hole in one of the
flowmasters, lost the posi, busted the spoiler and fog lights, bowed a fender and
chipped some paint- Hey, no one said makin' car movie was easy!
Thanks to Jake Johnson Enterprises for hauling down his excavator to move some
earth and dead trees for us on the location of our next stunt shoot. Thanks to
Hootie for bringing the Rocky Mountain Spring water to quench our thirst. Thanks
again to Mike and Robert at the Dockton Speed Shop, Paul Engels and all the great
friends helping to make CLUTCH what it is! Next shoot in 12 days- '68 Camaro "Bomber"
back in action!

An official WRAP for shooting scenes at one of CLUTCH's most filmed locations,
ENGELS REPAIR and TOWING on Vashon Island, WA. An enormous thank you to
Paul, Lou and Connie Engels for their continuous support, understanding,
PATIENCE and all around generosity. There's a few more bad ass cars
that were involved in the August 23, 2007 shoot but you'll have to wait to
see them in the movie. (Hint: One's a big block Chevy and the other's a
big block Mopar) For now you can gawk at actor LeeRoy Cannady's metallic
tangerine orange 1968 Pontiac Le Mans. It's riding on 20's , got a stick
shifted, supercharged, methanol injected built Pontiac 350 snortin' fire under
that hood too.
Next shoot: More red lined, full throttle action in the '68 Camaro stunt car-
scroll down and you'll see what we're talkin' about!

The final picture edit has been completed for 85 out of 90 scenes in the movie.
The 5 miscellaneous scenes have received their final cut as well, with the
exception of some additional shots that must be inserted. These particular pick
up shots were scheduled for December and January but Winter storms
with snow and rain have pushed that into February. Jay really enjoys the shooting
process and is excited to get out and nail these last shots.
Well known and respected sound editor Steve Jones has come on board as the Post-Production
Sound Supervisor for CLUTCH. Jay is currently reviewing composers to create the score for CLUTCH
as well. Official work on all sound related areas is planned to begin around March 1st.
Stay tuned for more updates and photos to come!
THANK YOU to all the fans who have been following the progress
of this film.
